James responds to an invitation from author Poultney Bigelow to attend a dinner at the Author’s Club of London: “I am not a member of the A.C., & one of the reasons is, precisely, that I may not have to go to their dinners. I never go to ‘annual’ dinners, speech-making dinners or public dinners of any kind—I have of them an insurmountable terror & horror…” CONDITION: Good, separated at folds and discreetly repaired with Japanese tissue.
