Hand-colored lithographic map, 16.5 x 21.0125” plus margins, folding into original brown cloth covers with gilt title “Guide Map of Missouri and Kansas” stamped on upper cover; 3 pp. Census of the State of Missouri 1860 affixed to inside of upper cover. Blanchard’s map of Missouri and eastern Kansas with a portion of southwestern Illinois, published as the country turning the page on the era of Bleeding Kansas and the Civil War. A key on the lower left identifies both proposed railroads and those in operation, state capitals, county seats, state lines, county lines, and stage lines. Also included are a chart showing the elevation of various towns and cities relative to the mouth of the Illinois River, and a diagram explaining the subdivision of townships. Scarce. OCLC records four copies, at Yale, LC, KS Hist., and the Univ. of KS. CONDITION: Good, chip at lower edge with loss to printed border, old “x” marks in ink in various locales.
