The Barnum and Bailey program for the season of 1912, with a total of 16 fantastic acts, including: “The Spectacle of Cleopatra”; “Three Royal Riding Acts” (including “Dainty and dexterous displays of principal bareback equitation by the charming exemplar of grace and agility, Miss Victoria Davenport”); “A Complete Number of Absolutely New and Novel Trained Animal Acts” (including “A real new act of seals and sea lions. They perform wonderful feats of juggling, balancing, etc., while riding bareback on swiftly galloping horses”); “A Congress of the World’s Greatest Strong People” (including The Royal Mikado Athletes’s “First time in America…Direct from Tokio. A remarkable exhibition of scientific Japanese athletic sports”); and several other “greatest” and most “prodigious” shows of “various and vigorous arenic acts of deftness and dexterity.” A complete synopsis of “Cleopatra” follows the initial program, as well as an “Introduction to the Magazine of Wonders”; an article on the “Famous Founders” of the circus; a walk-through of “Circus Day”; and articles on the “Peculiarities of the Lion” (“Grown lions are fed about fifteen pounds of beef every day, except Sunday. On that day, in order to prevent distemper from over-feeding, they are compelled to fast”); “The Circus in Summer and Winter”; “How Animals are Trained” and other topics of interest.

CONDITION: Good, some rubbing at edges and on upper left corner of front cover, bit of chewing to upper left corner of back cover.
