Sylvanite Mining and Milling Co., State of Colorado.

New York: Sylvanite Mining and Milling Co., [1889]. 18mo, printed tan wrappers, 24 pp. In custom folder, half red morocco and marbled paper over boards, gilt title and date on spine.

A rare prospectus for the Sylvanite Mining And Milling Company of Colorado, complete with four testimonials by J. E. Brothers, John D. Morrissey, David Kelso, and H. A. Pierce, all of whom have examined the mine. David Kelso testifies, "The Sylvanite mine of Gunnison Country, Col., is a very interesting deposit, both from a geologic and an economic point of view"; H. A. Pierce, professes:

I have seen many mines in Mexico, Central, South America and North America, but none which excel the Sylvanite in the beauty and richness and great variety of its ores…Don't let your readers think that such mines as the Sylvanite abound very thickly. This is one grand mine, existing amid a thousand disappointments, and if managed with wisdom will probably yield millions. This is 'bullion' enough for one letter.

The properties the company has purchased include the famous Sylvanite East Wing, the Buckeye Mines, and the Sylvanite Tunnel Site, all of which are located in the Elk Mountain Mining District of Gunnison County, Col., six miles north of Gothic, and fourteen miles from Crested Butte, the nearest railway station. The company was incorporated under the laws of the State of Colorado and boasted a capital of Five Million Dollars, in Five Hundred Thousand shares, of Ten Dollars each. The prospectus announces that "[a] limited amount of the stock of this Company is now offered for sale,” and notes there are samples of the ore on exhibition in New York City.

Rare. OCLC records just a single copy, at the Denver Public Library, as well as a mimeographed typescript at Yale.

CONDITION: Very good, minor creases.
