Alaska and the Yukon: America’s Last Frontier.

A striking brochure promoting steamship tours to Alaska and the Yukon, aboard the S.S. Prince Rupert, Prince George and Prince Robert, describing and picturing the ports of call. The sister-ships Prince Rupert and George provided eleven regular trips while the Prince Robert offered an eleven-day cruise; and connections were made to Jasper Park Lodge via rail. An account of the steamship trip, which departed from Vancouver, is given in the following style: “The hoarse roar of the ship’s siren awakes a thousand primeval echoes in precipitous ravines, peopled only by dim, aboriginal ghosts.” Descriptions and images follow of Wrangell at the mouth of the Stikine, Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka, Skagway, West Taku Arm, Lake Aitlin, a Yukon River trip, the scene of Service’s “Cremation of Sam McGee.”

The yellow, blue and red map—entitled “Alaska via Canadian National Steamships: Land of Mystery…and Romance”—illustrates the Pacific Coast Service steamship routes of S.S. Princes Rupert, George, Robert, and John from Seattle, Washington to Skagway, Alaska; as well as the W.P.&Y.R. (White Pass and Yukon Route) railway to Dawson, AK.; Portland Canal Service to Stewart and Anyos, B.C.; and the Queen Charlotte Islands Service from Vancouver to Prince Rupert via Caspar, B.C. The inset map focuses on the interior lake region of Skagway, West-Taku-Arm and Atlin B.C., and stretches north to Whitehorse, AK and east to Hayes Peak, AK.
