Boston: Geo. E. Littlefield, 67 Cornhill, 1883, No. 10. 8vo (9” x 5.75”), original green illustrated wrappers. 24 pp., plus [4] pp. on integral leaf with additional offerings. CONDITION: Fair, separated at spine, vertical crease at center, wrappers slightly chipped; contents very good.

This catalog issued by noted Boston bookseller George Emery Littlefield (1844–1915) contains 611 items on Native American history, language, and culture. An additional bifolium, evidently once stapled in, consists of Littlefield’s advertisement for Groton During the Indian Wars (1883) by Samuel A. Green, the librarian of the Massachusetts Historical Society, and a priced list of Green’s other books.

Littlefield specialized in Americana and published Early Booksellers of Boston, 1642–1711 (1900), among other histories. Charles E. Goodspeed, a younger contemporary of Littlefield, described his shop as “lined by shelves built to the ceiling,” his desk “surrounded by rows of Americana and buttressed by dusty piles of pamphlets,” and himself “brusque in manner and intolerant of casual visitors.”
