Examples of American Domestic Architecture.

New York: William T. Comstock, 1889. Oblong 4to, original blue-green cloth, title stamped in gilt on front cover and spine. 40 pp., numerous b&w illus., 59 plates of line drawings.

First edition. An important book in the development of Shingle Style architecture, and discussed at length in Vincent Scully's The Shingle Style, pp. 113-120. Stevens and Cobb were based in Portland, Maine, and most of the buildings illustrated were erected on the coast of Maine. Much sought after, especially in Maine by those who live in Stevens & Cobb homes, it is an extremely scarce book in the marketplace.

REFERENCES: Hitchcock 1240; Sprague, The Mirror of Maine 32.

CONDITION: Good, head and foot of spine rubbed, extremities worn, moderate soiling and scuffing, light diagonal crease across front cover; hinges repaired and now quite sturdy.
