A handbook and trade catalog issued by the leading American globe manufacturer of the mid-nineteenth century, and one of relatively few publications on globes of the era. Thirty pages are devoted to instruction on the use of globes, with sections on both the terrestrial and the celestial, listing the features of each. Also included are exercises or “problems” under such headings as “To find the sun’s meridian altitude at a given place on a given day,” “To find the length of a degree in any given parallel of latitude,” etc. The nine-page catalog section includes two floor globes and five table or cabinet globes, all of which are illustrated, with descriptions, sizes, and prices. The models offered are Joslin’s Bronze Pedestal Stand, Joslin’s Tripod Stand, Joslin’s Low Bronze Stand, Joslin’s Full Wood Stand, Joslin’s Low Tripod Stand, Joslin’s Semi-Circle Stand, and Joslin’s Telluric Globe. The upper cover, illustrated with gilt globe, is quite attractive.
