Boston: Estes and Lauriat, 1898. Hardcover. 12mo (7” x 4.5”), three quarters crushed brown leather and marbled paper over boards, gilt author, title, and flowers in six compartments at spine. 2 frontispiece etchings (same image), one pencil signed by the artist, 128 pp., 10 b&w etchings, 5 on chine-collé pencil signed by the artist and 5 unsigned duplicates. Pencil inscription above imprint: “Given to Lucille M. Worster by Mr. Harold Hammond of Brookline Mass. 1962.” Early bookseller ticket of “Chas. E. Lauriat Co., Booksellers & Importers, Boston” at lower left of ffep. CONDITION: Very good, rubbed along upper edge of front hinge, light wear to extremities. Copy number 31 of 1000 of this deluxe edition of Richards’s children’s novel about a lighthouse keeper and his daughter, printed on “Japanese hand-made paper,” signed by the author and publishers at the colophon, and illustrated with pencil-signed etchings.
