Ownership inscription in ink at upper front paste-down: “Davidson.” CONDITION: Very good, covers near-fine with faint scuffing, minor wear to extremities.

First edition. The author was a Massachusetts abolitionist and educator who travelled in 1864, with the support of the New England Freedman’s Aid Society, to Beaufort, S.C., to be a teacher of freed slaves. Botume documents her journey, teaching experience, and abolitionist sentiments.
