Map of the Country Thirty Three Miles Around the City of New York.

Hand-colored map, 23” x 21.5” plus margins, folding into original brown cloth 12mo covers, title and small map stamped in gilt on front cover. CONDITION: Small losses to head and foot of spine, map in excellent condition with brilliant color. Revised edition. Originally published by Colton in 1846, this beautifully designed, circular map is a re-engraving of John Eddy’s renowned “Map of the Country Thirty Miles round the City of New York,” published in 1812. It shows the region around New York as far east as Suffolk County, Long Island, north to southern Rockland County, NY, east to Morris County, NJ, and south to Monmouth County, NJ. The whole is surrounded by a handsome foliated and floral border incorporating vignette views of the city hall buildings in Brooklyn and New York. Rumsey calls it “one of Colton’s most attractive maps.”
