Clipped wood-engraved portrait of Burton affixed to verso of flyleaf. The second, revised edition of the first biography of Burton, first published in 1880, with a fine woodburytype portrait after a photograph by Kingsbury & Notcutt of Knightsbridge. The text, as noted in the subtitle, is “Collected from ‘Men of Eminence;’ from Sir Richard and Lady Burton’s own works, from the press, from personal knowledge, and various other reliable sources.” CONDITION: Good, extremities rubbed, old blind-stamp of one “William B. Clark” on flyleaf, tight and clean.
