12mo (183 x 113 mm). White paper spine, with black paper over boards. CONDITION: Good, rubbed, contents somewhat loose but not detached.

A sammelband of five 18th century plays, four of them British imprints and one American, bound for Chauncey Whittlesey (1743-1812) of Middletown, Connecticut, whose name appears on the first two endpapers and each title-page. The one American imprint included here, the first American edition of Thomas Morton’s Secrets Worth Knowing, is rare (like many 18th century American dramatic imprints). OCLC records just two copies, with a possible third in a sammelband described as containing this title but with no mention of the imprint. Secrets Worth Knowing was first printed and performed in London in 1798. Thus, unlike the other plays included here, it was very much of the moment.
