CONDITION: Good, minimal wear to covers, front inner hinge split, numerous newspaper clippings pasted onto and sometimes obscuring text, some offsetting to endpapers. A scarce cookbook published by the Springfield, Vermont chapter of an international women’s philanthropical association, here with numerous manuscript additions. All of the printed recipes are credited to women in the community. Among the many recipes in manuscript is a “chocolate sponge” for which one had to “Beat 4 eggs, mix 1c sugar, 1 1/2c flour, 1 ts baking powder, 2 sq chocolate,” and then “Bake for 1/2 hour. Mrs. R. used yokes of 3 eggs, whites of 2.” OCLC records just two copies, at Duke and the University of Vermont.
