Top edge colored green, deckled edges. [viii], 197, [2]. Ten illus., including a title-page device, three full-page and five half-page illus., and one tailpiece, all wood-engravings by the author. CONDITION: Good, spine browned and covers faded, contents clean.

First “ordinary” edition (there was also a limited edition of 160 copies). “An edition in German was contemplated, but though an 8-page prospectus containing a specimen page was issued…it never materialized. Printed on the back of this prospectus are extracts, in German, from reviews which appeared in five British journals.”
