First edition. Belknap is best known for his pioneering history of New Hampshire published between 1784 and 1792. He also wrote The Foresters, “a humorous allegory describing the rise of the British colonies in North America” (DAB). American Biography was his final work, the first volume of which was published during his lifetime, the second after his death.
